I know the house always wins, whether that's Twitch or YouTube, or soever. I was never going to be a cash cow for those platforms. But, it would have been nice to feel like I'd at least some day break even on at least a philosophical level

Not just talking about money, though it’d be nice to have supplemented my income. But also just to have felt that my effort was worth it somehow. That I wasn’t howling into the void to simply have my time and effort vanish with no impact and for no purpose.

The overall tech hustle culture of permanent unofficial unpaid internships for huge companies just on the chance for exposure or vanishing actual employment is a plague, and that applies to the huge long tail of people working on content and the pyramid scheme of unpaid (often actually PAYING) community labour to get a morsel of notice me senpai or a foot in the door too.
